Discussion on the Role of Dreams in the Writings of Fyodor Dostoevsky
SLOVO Journal, edited and managed by postgraduate students at the School of Slavonic and East European Studies, are pleased to invite you to the publication event of our Spring issue.
At the event, one of the authors of the issue, James Livingstone who is also a postgraduate student at SSEES, will give a speech on his article ‘The Common Dreamscape: A Study of Dream Types in the Writings of Fedor Dostoevskii’. Drawing on a broad selection of dreaming experiences in Dostoevsky’s works, his paper looks to shed light on their significance, attempting an understanding of the crucial functions that the dreams serve, as well as identifying and evaluating the sensations, properties and evocations that come to define the various dream-worlds conjured across Dostoevsky’s fiction.
Following James Livingstone’s speech, Emeritus Professor of Russian Literature, Arnold McMillin and SSEES PhD student, Bilal Siddiqi will lead a discussion on the role of dreams in Dostoevsky’s writings.
Russian sweets and drinks will be provided!
The event is free and open to everyone.
