Frank Perry: The Sound and The Light of Himalayas
Audio-visual performance featuring Frank Perry playing 200 antique Himalayan singing bowls and some other instruments, in synchrony with the slides of paintings by Nicholas Roerich, leading to a powerful experience of the psychic dimensions of sound and colour.
N.Roerich, a Russian by birth, painted some 7,000 pictures. His paintings are concerned not only with the beautiful but also with the deeply spiritual, and they are said to have a profound hypnotic expression. The paintings fall into three main periods: – the Stone Age, the Theatre and the late Himalayan, the latest being the fruition of his 5 years expedition to Northern India, Turkestan, Altai, Mongolia and Tibet. Roerich was also a writer, archaeologist, theosophist and dedicated activist for preserving art during times of war. He earned several nominations for the Nobel Peace Prize.
Frank Perry is a leading expert in old Himalayan singing bowls. He is a composer, performer, astrologer, artist, healer and has invented musical instruments that are part of his unique collection which is made up of hundreds of Far Eastern ritual percussion instruments including gongs, bells, bowls etc, many of which had been consecrated and charged with psycho-spiritual powers centuries ago. Frank has been a part of the soundscape/healing music scene since 1968 and continues to dedicate his life to his music and spiritual beliefs.
“The effect of his music is both unbelievably ancient as well as futuristic, and can only be said to depict other states of reality and other levels of consciousness. Frank Perry is a pioneer into dimensional realities which have not yet been explored by contemporary music and in that he stands alone.”
The doors will be open one hour before the performance, and you are very welcome to come early and browse through a number of antique singing bowls for sale, as well as a range of Frank’s CD’s, his handmade wooden wands for singing bowls and numerous prints of Roerich’s paintings.
