Conductor Semyon Bychkov and BBC Symphony Orchestra

During the concert, two different centuries and two very different but equally heartfelt fourth symphonies will be presented. When Detlev Glanert was commissioned to write the Prague Symphony, he turned to Franz Kafka for advice, and the result was a song-symphony in the Mahler tradition, addressed to our time. The piece will be performed for the first time in the UK, with Catriona Morison and Christian Iimmler as soloists. The second piece of the evening will be the Fourth Symphony by Brahms, who also managed to make it deeply personal and innovative for his time.

The concert will be conducted by Semyon Bychkov, who made a sensation with the world premiere in Prague last December. It belongs to him to combine the two fourth symphonies in one program, because they reveal deep emotional experiences.
