Living exiles: Experiences of Russians living in London today

A get together for Russians living in London today to share their experiences of moving here.

As part of the season of events related to our pavilion – 101st km Further Everywhere, by Alexander Brodsky, that looks at the theme of creativity in exile following the 1917 revolution, Pushkin House is hosting a get together for Russians living in London today, to get together and share their experiences of moving here, or being born here to emigre parents.

A panel discussion will be followed by an open session where everyone can share their story. The panel will include those whose memories go back to the first Russian diaspora in London such as Larisa Salmina-Haskell, who lives in Oxford now,  an extraordinary lady who survived the Leningrad blockade and who is also responsible for putting together a Russian collection at the Ashmolean Museum. Other speakers will include artist Sergei Pavlenko, who was awarded a commission to paint a large-scale picture of the Queen. There will also be those who left the Soviet Union at the time of the Fall of the Berlin Wall and those who are part of the latest migration wave.
