Presentation of a new book by Robert Bevan

Robert Bevan is a journalist, writer and cultural heritage specialist who has worked as an architecture critic and editor of Building Design magazine.

On October 19, at the Academy of Arts, the writer will present a new book, “Monumental Lies: Culture Wars and the Truth About the Past”. At the event, Bevan will discuss what happens when countries promote political lies, what the role of architecture is, and how the look of a city influences thinking.

The talk will touch on a number of contested issues, including Civil War monuments, statues of slave owners, fascist memorials and post-war reconstruction. The author will question the credibility of UNESCO and politics, and discuss how best to deal with problematic monuments.

The presentation of the book will end with a discussion and answers to questions that have arisen.
