The British Museum galleries set for major transformation

A third of the British Museum’s exhibition space is set for a significant redesign, led by Lebanese architect Lina Ghotmeh and her Paris-based practice, Lina Ghotmeh — Architecture (LGA).

LGA was the unanimous choice from a shortlist of five firms, with the museum praising its proposal for demonstrating a “deep understanding and sensitive approach” to the institution’s legacy. The studio will now collaborate with museum experts to develop initial designs, which are expected to be unveiled in mid-2026.

Ghotmeh is no stranger to London audiences. In 2023, she designed the Serpentine Pavilion in Kensington Gardens, a structure titled “À table” that aimed to foster communal dialogue. Yet the reception was mixed — some critics dismissed it as little more than a “giant cocktail umbrella.”
