Book presentation: “Twilight of the Soviet Union: Memoirs of a Moscow correspondent”

A former foreign correspondent in Moscow, Kate Clark will talk about her new book, as well as sign the purchased editions. The writer tried to convey her vision of the last period of the history of the USSR, the era of change and further dissolution. In the book, she answers the questions: “Why did this happen? Was it possible to avoid this?” As a journalist, Kate lived and worked in Moscow in 1985-90, her children went to a Soviet school, and they often traveled around the country — notes about these everyday situations also complement the narrative of the book.

Kate Clarke studied Russian at the University of Manchester, then won a scholarship to study at Moscow State University. When the MorningStar sent her back to Moscow, a change of power had just taken place in the USSR: the elderly leader Konstantin Chernenko died, and a younger, energetic Mikhail Gorbachev came to power.
