Concert impromptu. Music and poetry event

Sat, 07 October7 : 00 PM

On the evening of Saturday, 7th of October, the SoNote Production Team extends a heartfelt invitation for you to join us at the historic Burgh House, a charming dwelling constructed during the reign of Queen Anne in 1704. Immerse yourself in a tranquil atmosphere imbued with the timeless elegance of jazz and poetry. The evening commences with English romantic poetry, delicately accompanied by the harp, and segues into a segment of Russian romantic poetry, enriched by the sonorous tones of the cello and flute.

The concert will be inaugurated by Alina Bzhezhinska, an unparalleled virtuoso in the world of harpists. Far more than a musician, Alina is a creative force committed to elevating the harp into the vanguard of contemporary soundscapes. Her talents have not gone unnoticed; she was nominated for ‘Best Live Experience of the Year’ at the 2018 Jazz FM Awards and clinched the Presto Music Award in 2022. Beyond her artistic endeavours, Bzhezhinska is also dedicated to philanthropy, running a charity to aid her native Ukraine.

Joining this distinguished musical soirée is Maria Chamberlain, a seasoned TV and radio journalist and keen cultural observer. She has lent her expertise to esteemed platforms such as the “Kultura” TV channel and the “BBC Russian Service.” Maria gained recognition as the author and presenter of the incisive programme “Chamberlain’s Answer,” and commenced her print journalism career in the early 2000s with contributions to various London newspapers. Over the years, she has amassed an impressive portfolio of more than 200 interviews, featuring notable political figures like Margaret Thatcher, as well as cultural luminaries including Charles Aznavour. As an author, Maria has penned the evocative poetry collections ‘Shards’ and ‘Singularity,’ along with the intriguing short story compilation ‘Ant Ice Cream.’

To round off this exquisite evening, we are pleased to offer guests a unique opportunity: a chance to take the stage and recite their chosen poems, whether from a favourite poet or their own repertoire, all complemented by the mellifluous backdrop of flute and cello.
