The Second Prokofiev Festival

The Second Prokofiev Festival will take place in London from 25 to 28 May. The following events will take place during the festival:

1. On May 25, Bartholomew LaFollette and Yulia Chaplina will perform music by Prokofiev, Shostakovich, Babadzhanyan and Rachmaninov at Pushkin House.

2. On May 26, Kings Place will host a concert Behind the Iron Curtain with performances by Thomas Gould and Yulia Chaplina. The programme of the concert dives into the music of Prokofiev, Shostakovich and Weinberg, written at the height of the Soviet Empire. Feel the desperation of artists trapped in an authoritarian regime and decipher their hidden meanings.

3. On May 27, the Russian Cultural Centre will host a concert of amateur pianists who will perform music by Prokofiev, Scriabin, Schostakovich, Lyadov, Rachmaninov, Szymanowski, Ligeti. The Young Artists Concert with music by Gubaidulina, Medtner, Prokofiev, Scriabin and Rachmaninov will take place on the same day.

4. On May 28, the Children’s Concert will take place at the the Russian Cultural Centre. Children will perform works by Russian composers and Prokofiev’s contemporaries, including Tchaikovsky, Gliere, Schostakovich and Rachmaninov.
