Style and legacy: new exhibition explores Queen Elizabeth II’s royal wardrobe
In spring 2026, London’s King’s Gallery will unveil Queen Elizabeth II: Her Life in Style — the largest exhibition ever dedicated to the sartorial legacy of the late monarch. Featuring around 200 garments spanning every decade of her life, the show will explore how Elizabeth II shaped and reflected British fashion over seventy years on the throne. Remarkably, half of the pieces have never been displayed to the public before.

Among the highlights: iconic gowns by Norman Hartnell, including the striking green evening dress worn during a 1957 reception for President Eisenhower in Washington, alongside the Queen’s signature tweed suits, coats, hats, and even a transparent Hardy Amies raincoat from the 1960s.
The exhibition also features contemporary responses from leading British designers Erdem Moralioglu, Richard Quinn, and Christopher Kane — each presenting a new piece inspired by the Queen’s enduring image, shown alongside original items from the Royal Collection.
“In the year that she would have turned 100 years old, this exhibition will be a celebration of Queen Elizabeth’s uniquely British style and her enduring fashion legacy,” says Caroline de Guitaut, curator of the show and Surveyor of the King’s Works of Art.
