Creative meeting “Russia and the United Kingdom: Literary Translation as a Way of Intercultural Communication”
Library for Foreign Literature and The Institute for Literary Translation in Moscow present the creative meeting “Russia and the United Kingdom: Literary Translation as a Way of Intercultural Communication”.
Speakers:
Alexander Livergant — translator and writer, Chairman of the Guild “Masters of Literary Translation”, editor-in-chief of “Inostrannaya Literatura” (“Foreign Literature”) magazine.
Grigory Kruzhkov — poet, professor of translation at the Russian State University for the Humanities and honorary doctor of literature at Trinity College.
Marina Boroditskaya — poet, translator and author of books for children.
The special guest of the meeting is Irina Kirillova, University of Cambridge Lecturer in Russian Studies, specialist in the writings of Dostoevsky and legendary translator of the Royal Family. The topic of her speech sounds unusual: “The Translator: an Absent Presence”.
The participants of the meeting will share their own experience of literary translation with guests, talk about the features of working with the language of literary text, and discuss how to use the techniques of literary translation in teaching Russian in an English-speaking environment. The conversation will also touch upon such a unique sphere of translation activity as diplomatic translation.
The event will be interesting for English-speaking translators, Russian language teachers, publicists and journalists. Guests of the meeting will be able to live chat with famous translators and literary actors.
