BBC Proms announces its summer 2025 programme: 86 concerts, a return to late-night performances, and a tribute to Shostakovich
Arguably the most anticipated event on the classical music calendar in the UK, the BBC Proms has revealed its full programme for summer 2025. Spanning eight weeks and comprising 86 concerts, the festival will feature over 40 leading British ensembles, with a number of surprises in store — including the return of a late-night Prom for the first time since 1983.
The BBC’s own orchestras and choirs will once again form the backbone of the season, performing in nearly 50 of the scheduled concerts. Joining them will be a strong line-up of international ensembles including the Vienna Philharmonic, the Leipzig Gewandhaus Orchestra, and the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra. Notable soloists include South Korean pianist Yunchan Lim, British pianist András Schiff, violinists Hilary Hahn and Janine Jansen, and soprano Golda Schultz.
This season will also pay tribute to Dmitri Shostakovich, marking 50 years since the composer’s death with performances of eight of his works. Among the highlights is a co-production of Lady Macbeth of Mtsensk by the BBC Philharmonic and English National Opera.

A particular talking point will be the festival’s first late-night concert in over four decades, featuring pianist Hayato Sumino, cellist Anastasia Kobekina, the Pembroke College Chapel Choir, and the Norwegian ensemble Barokksolistene.
The Proms’ ongoing mission to broaden its musical reach will continue with performances by non-classical artists, including US singers St. Vincent and Samara Joy, DJ Trevor Nelson, and the world premiere of a new album by Anoushka Shankar.
In 2025, the Proms will make its debut in Bradford and Sunderland, and return to venues in Bristol, Gateshead, and Belfast, alongside its traditional home at London’s Royal Albert Hall. The festival maintains its commitment to accessibility, with tickets starting at £10 and standing room available from just £8.
For those unable to attend in person, every concert will be broadcast live on BBC Radio 3 and BBC Sounds, while BBC Television and iPlayer will screen 25 concerts throughout the season. BBC Proms 2025 runs from 18 July to 13 September.
